On hols again

I'm off for a week to learn to sail big yachts as opposed to my little dinghy so no blogging.

If you hear of a boat colliding with an oil tanker or channel ferry it means some idiot let me have a go at the steering wheel.

Have a good week and here's hoping that some stability returns to the markets before I get back, but I doubt it given the interventions of our hyper active Prime Minister.

I'm back

Great time had by all, especially me. Wind was great and I go my RYA2 dinghy sailing, so I can now hire boats when travelling. I also managed to get a couple of start on a mono ski, but more to work on there. Lots of wind and great food made the evenings enoyable as well.

A dreadful journey back, delays in Turkey and then Gatwick took over an hour to get through. On top of that we were so late that all the night time engineering works on the motorways had started so a 60 mile motroway journey took nearly 2 hours so we didn't get home until midnight.

Lots of work to catch up on and I notice my favourite bloggers have been busy, I've over 500 posts in my RSS reader, so that will keep me busy.

I notice Brown is still there and pushing 42 days - to late to blog on both, I just hope that he fails tonight and then is forced out - fascist bastard.

I hope to get posting more regularly later this week, once I'm on top of work.

Going on hols, no blogging

I'm off to Turkey on Monday for a weeks holiday, although it won't be restful in the physical sense. As I'm easily bored we found Neilson Beach holidays* a few years ago and they are just the thing for me - I start the day with a water ski, then sail and finally a bike ride about 4pm. The evenings are better as it is like being at a dinner party with friends every night, the only problem is that nobody wants to be seen as a free loader so the wine flows a little too freely sometimes!

Despite all that I still manage to get some reading done. This year my summer reading is:

Vince Flynn, Protect & Defend - Good escapist nonsense of the Jack Bauer/24 variety.

Michael Ridpath, Se No Evil - e used to write good thrillers which had some educational stuff about how the City and finance work, but he has gone off the boil a bit

The Undercover Economist - A good friend and former fellow Director who now teaches business and economics at A Level swears by this book. I've picked it up a couple of times when staying with him and decided I need to read it

Freakonomics - Another god friend and former fellow Director is always banging on about this so again I thought its time to read it

Hayek, The road To Serfdom - Tim Worstall recommended this when I was chatting to him at the "Curbing the Crap Artists" event at the ASI
